Gareth Koch Releases Single ‘Rumba Nostalgica’

The lyrical and energetic Rumba Nostalgica reflects the sound of the Gypsies, the passion of flamenco, and the irresistible beats of Cuba. The rumba dance style consists of elements from the Romany tradition in southern France & Catalonia, flamenco from the south of Spain, & rhythms imported from the Caribbean.

Presented here as an arrangement for four guitars, Gareth expands Juan Martin’s Rumba Nostalgica into a subtly orchestrated work. The result is brimming with percussion, counter melodies & pulsating rhythm, whilst retaining an uncompromisingly flamenco spirit.

Recorded with Australia’s leading guitarists Slava Grigoryan, Karin Schaupp and Leonard Grigoryan, collectively known as Saffire – The Australian Guitar Quartet, their ensemble won an ARIA in 2003 for ‘Best Classical Album’.

Gareth Koch is an ARIA Award winning multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, guitar soloist, composer & songwriter. He has recorded an extensive catalogue across multiple genres for classical guitar, flamenco, original compositions, arrangements, medieval projects, ambient music, rock & song writing. He has appeared at major festivals within Australia, Europe, Asia and North America.

Gareth was born in Milan Italy into an artistic family. His father is the Australian novelist Christopher Koch, and his Lithuanian-born mother Irene is a piano graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His early musical education began with piano and clarinet before entering the gifted youth music programme at the Mozarteum in Salzburg Austria. When his family moved to Spain Gareth fell under the spell of the guitar.

After graduation from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Gareth won scholarships to the Royal Conservatorium of Madrid and the Academy of Music in Vienna under Professor Konrad Ragossnig. From this point his career developed to include music teaching, recording, publishing and performing. His recent classical album ‘The Guitar Player’ received a coveted 5 Star review from the Sydney Morning Herald.

Gareth’s current projects have a world music and contemporary bias with classical overtones. His writing is increasingly focussed on the ethereal nature of music. Recent collaborations include ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Steve Kilbey (The Church) with whom he has released three albums.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO

Originally recorded as a stripped-back demo inspired by Gerry Cinnamon with CB on guitar (capo on the third fret) and a foot stomp, the song first took shape in its simplest form. That early version carried the backbeat but lacked the now-signature drum build that had become a standout moment in live shows.

So, it was back to Damien Gerard’s studio to start again. Born as a sunset, balcony, surf-side tune, the released single captures exactly what the band has grown into as a unit. While the original had charm, this full-band version—driven by bass, drums, and soaring violin—arrives as a fully realised, big-hearted band banger.

“One Wave at a Time” is a reflective yet uplifting ode to living in the here and now. Written from the idea that when life feels overwhelming, the only way forward is day by day — or for surfers, one wave at a time — the song captures the quiet healing of the ocean and the clarity it brings to a restless mind.

Penned in the aftermath of a breakup that left CB questioning identity and priorities, the track balances light and shade, sadness and joy. Defying conventional structure, it eases into a restrained pre-chorus that creates a false sense of calm before opening into an expansive, emotionally charged release. Beneath the melancholic reflections of loss lies an unwavering optimism — a reminder to keep moving forward.

cbpres

Described by Scenestr as “Oasis meets Jack Johnson with Chris Cornell feels,” CB Ghost is no genre experiment — he’s a full-bodied apparition with a pulse.

An original solo artist backed by his band of merry Ghosts, CB Ghost has been carving out a reputation for raucous, emotion-soaked, good-time live shows that leave rooms louder than they found them. His debut album Mayhemic, released June 5, 2025 via Foghorn Records (MGM Distribution), features fan-favourite singles “Hollywood Hills,” “Beautiful Middle Finger,” and breakout track “Hold Down Hymn,” now past 100,000 streams and still climbing.

The band is a beautiful anomaly.

On drums and backing vocals: Glenn B, seasoned, formidable, and relentless.

On bass: Dean Sinclair — Rock Lord, delivering thunder, groove, and low-end authority like it’s written in stone.

On keys: Gem — incomparable, award-winning, and effortlessly elevating every song with colour, soul, and cinematic lift.

On violin: Archie P, hailed as “the best rock violinist in Australia,” arriving via Bonnie Scotland with strings on fire.

Together, they deliver moving high-energy shows — part sing-along, part catharsis, part dancefloor sermon. Add their powerful and original ballads – and it’s a roller coaster of emotions. As CB Ghost declares in “Beautiful Middle Finger”: “Ghosts don’t want to live forever.”

Sonically, CB Ghost blends alternative-rock, folk warmth, and surf-rock-country swagger, with pop hooks riding a riptide of feel-good drumbeats. Lyrically, it’s ocean-salted, streetwise, and emotionally honest — songs that make you move your hips, then check your heart.

Born from the unlikely union between a Lithuanian taxi driver and a Spanish nun, the Quixotic Michael Gabriel is the singer /song writer/ guitarist behind the musical adventure that is The QuiXotics. Currently recording album number 7 ‘Surfing Never Dies’ at the amazing Poons Head studio in Perth Western Australia.

In 2010 The QuiXotics released ‘Bumpy ride’, a trippy, melodic rocking debut highlighting The QuiXotics’ guitar based origins steeped in the blues, indi pop and rock n roll. Subsequent live shows and releases have showcased the QuiXotic nature of the band as it has adventured through myriad sound explorations all the time honing the emphasis on song writing while building an impressive body of work to date. The line up (since 2017) was formerly a 3 piece which includes Michael’s son Gabriel on drums and Hannah Smilie on bass and notable harmonies. Now with the recent inclusion of Aaron Powell on second guitar, together they form the 4 piece chemistry groove engine that will power the band into the future.

Fiona Joy Hawkins, Wivajoy Release Single ‘A Simple Christmas’

A Simple Christmas is an original Singer/Songwriter piece with piano, vocal, guitar and rhythm. Written by Fiona Joy Hawkins and performed with Wivajoy, it’s about wanting to keep Christmas simple and about what is important: friendship, love… the simple things!

When life gets busy and consumerism takes over, it’s refreshing to focus on how we want to spend our time and what is important at Christmas. Coming together should be about people, friendships, family and not for material reasons. This song puts all those messages together and makes us want to sing, dance and be happy for what matters.

I’ve learned this year what I really want
Not things I own, but hearts that bond.

No shiny Boxes, no perfect pines
No silver bells, no shopping lines

A Simple Christmas this time….

Watch the Music Video Here

WIVAJOY is the alter-ego for an artist in the New Age world. Their music is a playground where the artist layers rhythmic electronica with melodic acoustic instrumentation. It’s sensual, it’s dream-like and it comes from another world.

Earlier in their career they won an award for Best Dance/Club/Dub but abandoned the pursuit of the genre so as not to confuse their acoustic New Age audience. After countless pleas from fans, they are now back recording chill music and as ‘Wivajoy’ feeling free to explore this pursuit further.

Wivajoy’s keyboard, vocals and arrangements are influenced by the need to layer rhythm and synth together with acoustic parts. Their acoustic career highlights include having a song on a Grammy winning album as well as being a finalist or winning over 50 awards world wide including IMA, IAMA, MusicOZ, ARIA Finalist and more.

Kalen Hogan Releases Single ‘Ratio’

My track Ratio is about the frustration of being controlled, betrayed, or constantly hit with other people’s negative emotions until you snap. It speaks to anyone who’s ever felt trapped in conversations or arguments where their voice doesn’t matter. The song channels the anger and tension that builds when you hold back how you really feel, bottling it up instead of lashing out, even though the pressure keeps rising. The word ratio reflects the emotional weight and imbalance of these situations, where you’re pushed past your limit. With heavy lyrics and raw emotion, this track is a release of that aggression, a grudge that refuses to stay quiet.

kal

Kalen Hogan debuted onto the local Central Coast music scene in late 2022. Kalen quickly captivated audiences through his evocative songwriting and unique sound. Kalen’s beginnings reached an early milestone with the release of his first album, Isolation, in May 2023, at just 17 years of age.

Exploring themes of introspection and the human experience, Isolation embodies the solitude experienced during its creation amidst pandemic lockdowns. Songs such as “It’s you” and “Stoned and Cold” highlight Kalen’s talent for merging melancholic lyrics with engaging melodies. His pure vocal quality has drawn parallels to Thom Yorke of Radiohead and the late Jeff Buckley, while his musical style pays tribute to the 1990s grunge era, reflecting influences from bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

In 2024, Kalen continued to expand his music, releasing three singles that solidified his reputation as creative songwriter. “On the Phone,” released in April, singing of a culture engrossed in dating apps and disconnected individuals. The June 2024 release, “Right There,” contemplates the transient nature of time and the human inclination to take the present for granted until it has passed. Following this, November 2024’s “Mindless” courageously delves into the complexities of mental illness.

Kalen released Love Is Out, the first of some new recordings, in September. Ratio is the follow up with more from those sessions to be released in the new year. Coupled with his growing live presence, this prolific young songwriter is an emerging talent that is certainly worth watching out for. You can catch Kalen performing live at varying venues and events across Australia.

Tim Walker Releases Album ‘No Strings Attached’

Former Sydneysider Tim Walker’s songs are a folk-pop mix of reflective electric-acoustic music veering at times into pure indie rock territory.

The mood spans introspective thoughts on our dire environmental crisis (Copperhead, Every Story Tells a Picture) to the joyous celebration of love and pure fun (Love is for The Young (at Heart), Christine), then doubles back into angst (The Loving Arms) and aspiration (Star). One of the songs, featuring Tim on keyboards, is Streets of Rome, which was set in that city and features on his last major album release, Bridge of Angels – an actual tourist location. The album was released just as the pandemic hit our shores.

The most recent single is Pilot, which observes the explosion in travel of all types in the wake of the covid 19 crisis, as people try to shrug off the trauma of the confines and restrictions of the lockdowns. The songs are both light and dark and the collection concludes with a purely instrumental piece – a lighthearted jig, The Bolshie Swing. Tim performs regularly in Adelaide and Sydney.

Screen Shot 2024-08-13 at 11.29.41 am

Tim Walker is a singer-songwriter now based in Adelaide (ex-Sydney). His indie electric-folk/pop style reflects a city perspective, but with country, rock and jazz influences and universal themes. He began as a folkie at school, and continues its idea of personal stories, using electric rock guitars thrown in. As a tertiary student in Adelaide he was in a small country rock act doing mainly covers. Now as a soloist he is at his most prolific.

He moved to Sydney for work and continued playing after hours in many venues across town before releasing his first album, Fellow Traveller, with Foghorn Records in 2008. He followed this with a series of singles, then returned to Adelaide in 2018.  He released the album Bridge of Angels in 2019, again through Foghorn Records.

He has played at several major music festivals including Peat’s Ridge and the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival Windsor (NSW), and the Port Noarlunga Blues Festival (SA).

The DK Effect Crack the Amrap Charts

The bands new single Moth to The Flame(See Below) Has broken through on the CBAA Amrap charts

dk amrap charts

‘Moth to the Flame’ started out as a playful look at how basic human needs like love, faith, and desire are often exploited for profit. But more recently, with the rise of data tracking, algorithms, and social media we’re now experiencing how these ‘tools of influence’ can shape how people think, encourage certain beliefs and behaviours, and stir up fear and anger, especially in those who feel ignored or misunderstood. So, what began as a light dig at sex and religion now reflects on a slightly darker world.

‘Moth’ was the first track we recorded at Frying Pan Studio in MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art – in Tasmania. It’s become our trusted warm-up and soundcheck song, thanks to its familiar groove and the generous sonic space it offers for improvisation and creative play.

dk

The DK Effect are an original 9-piece soul, funk and RnB band known for their four powerhouse vocalists, rich storytelling, melodic harmonies, and the passionate, polyrhythmic ‘call and response’ vocal synchronicity inspired by gospel music.

Their debut album, ‘Moving Time’, showcased their diverse repertoire. The album spent two months in the TOP 10 of the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts.

Recording at the iconic Frying Pan Studio was a unique and amazing experience for the band. The studio offers stunning views of Berriedale Bay and Kunanyi (Mount Wellington), creating a relaxing and inspiring environment. There is a viewing window into the studio, allowing museum visitors to watch and listen (via headphones) to the recording process. For the band, it was fun being an ‘exhibition / performance artist’ during the recording process – almost like a live recording.

The band has performed at numerous Tasmanian venues such as MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), Altar, The Moonah Arts Centre, Kickstart Arts, Salamanca Arts Centre, The Clarence Jazz Festival, The Playhouse Theatre, The Taste of Tasmania Festival, Rektango, the Uni Bar, Street Eats Franko, and the Republic Bar.
